The mission of Kossuth Church of God in Christ conveys the Biblical idea of being sent; as expressed in Jesus'
saying, "As the Father has sent me, I'm sending you." (John
20:21). The
parallel between God sending Jesus and Jesus sending his disciples
describes both the method and content of the mission. The
church's mission then encompasses everything Jesus sends his people
into the world to do.
A
church exists by mission as a fire exists by burning.
The
church's mission can be stated as follows:
To
serve human beings without distinction and whatever, their needs
are. Its compassionate task is to aid victims of drought and famine;
to help set up development, schemes, literacy programs, and
education and housing programs.
It
has a particular responsibility to minister to the needs of the
handicap, older people, children at risk, and families in tension to
rehabilitate offenders against the law, alcoholics, and drug
addicts.
It
must bear witness to the truth as it is in Jesus (Ephesians 4:21).
This includes both witnessing the gospel and demonstrating its power
to bring new life and hope to communities and relationships.
It
should be engaged in seeing that God's justice is done in society.
The church should be active in promoting and defending the integrity
of family; hold banner against easy divorce, against abortions,
abnormal sexual relationships, pornography, and the exploitation of
women and children.
The
church should seek alternatives to policies, which give rise to
homelessness, under nourishment, and unemployment.
The
church has a responsibility to show what it means and practice to be a
reconciled and liberated community in the midst of a corrupt,
distressed, and despairing world. It is sent to demonstrate the
reality of God's unmerited grace, by practicing forgiveness and by
sharing of goods and resources to the less fortunate.
The
church is a "steward of God," responsible both for being a light
and an agent of transformation where God's peace and justice will
reign.
Through this ministry God has launched a series of programs:
